At work, our entire DD team had to each create a power point presentation on something having to do with our agency or what we do or the history behind what we do and why. We all worked together and had many meetings as a team to develop these power point presentations into a curriculum that we will use to teach our best employees. The purpose of the class is to help great employees become better and to empower them to manage others and to pass on their knowledge to those people. This is all in order to make the work environment and the services we provide our clients to be the best that they can be.
Our first class....the guinea pigs...ended today. All of the participants, mostly Home Managers and two of our best staff, had to take a test this morning and then they each had to give their own power point presentation on something that they learned in the class or something they wanted to expound on. After we sat and listened to each speaker, we all gave them positive praise and told them what we liked about their presentation. That was so nice and such an encouragement to them....most of them have never done any kind of public speaking and were nervous. This boosted their self esteem and it was just really productive and encouraging. After they were all done, I started thinking....all of them had a wide variety...6 weeks worth of information...of things to choose from as a topic for their presentation. They each chose vastly different topics and they each spoke with authority and with ease...even the ones who were the most nervous.
They each chose their topic based on the fact that they are passionate about the subject. Because they are passionate about what they were speaking on, the talk came to life and they gave examples and they were effective teachers. Passion is behind things that we are good at...things that motivate us...things we are attracted to in life. Loving other people is a passion of mine. I am drawn to others who have needs I can meet, and it's easy and natural for me to do that. This makes me an effective teacher of this "passion" of mine. Everyone has a passion. Everyone is a teacher to others on what they are most expert at. We are all so different and all have such diverse passions that we can all be learning from each other for the rest of our lives.
As I sat there in that room, I was proud to be part of a team who is taking on the task of exposing people's passions in order to better this world. Thank You, God....for a front row seat today in seeing the gifts you have given these people I have come to know and love. What a blessing.
Tomorrow's a new day....Surprise us, God.
