Change is hard. And life is full of it. We are creatures of habit, some of us more than others. Most of us tend to not like change. It's scary. It involves newness, unfamiliar territory, the unknown. We like to know what we are getting ourselves into. The problem is, that doesn't really allow for much faith. And God is in the faith business. He wants to grow that in us. So....change. Our path sometimes is not lighted, except for our very next step. And after we take that step, the very next one is illuminated. We need to trust that He knows what He is doing and where He is leading us. That can either be scary or exciting, depending on our outlook on the circumstances that surround us. It all depends on our perspective. Our focus.
I really don't know much about ballet, but what I do know is what I have seen. I have seen ballerinas spin and spin and spin....and never lose their footing. They pick one spot to focus on and that's how they maintain their poise and balance. They have a focal point. A constant. In the midst of the blur of the scenery around them, they are focused on one thing and tune everything else out. I read part of an article recently that said there is scientific proof that dancers who routinely spin...and spin....an spin...like those who perform ballet...have brains that have adapted to the spinning so much that they will not get dizzy. Scientists are studying this more to see if they can use the results to help people that suffer from vertigo.
So...what if practice focusing on something constant and unchanging can keep us from stumbling and falling in the midst of the change around us?
