My kids have been in a basketball league now for about 4 years called Upward. Practices and games are held at a church near us. The kids get Scripture memory verses to remember each week and get stars for their jerseys if they remember them. Every week after their games their coaches hand out stars for best defensive player, best offense, etc. The kids are encouraged and motivated and their skills are praised while their shortcomings are gently corrected. I would recommend this league to any parent who is trying to increase their kids' self esteem, or for kids who are too shy to play for a community team. It's inexpensive, fun, a place to make new friends, and lots of life lessons are learned. It's priceless.
Last night was this season's award ceremony. There was a family of jugglers there for entertainment...they even involved their 11 month old daughter and dog. LOL Too cute. The kids each got recognized as a team as well as individually, received a trophy and a new basketball. They showed a video as well and I have included it here. This year at least one child who came to play on the league accepted Jesus. To me, that's what this is all about....and it makes it all worth it.
